Thirty-two pre-school children marked the end of their nursery journey with a special graduation ceremony at The Montessori People Nursery in Thornaby, as they prepare to take their next big step into primary school this September.
Thirty-two excited pre-school children celebrated the completion of their early years education at The Montessori People Nursery in Thornaby with a memorable graduation ceremony attended by proud family members and friends.
The young graduates looked the part in golden caps and gowns as they took centre stage during the afternoon event, where each child received a graduation scroll in recognition of their achievements and development during their time at the nursery.
A highlight of the ceremony saw the children demonstrate their British Sign Language skills by performing and signing the much-loved song I Can Sing a Rainbow. Learning a weekly BSL sign forms part of the nursery curriculum, helping children to develop communication skills and inclusivity from an early age.
The celebrations concluded in the nursery garden, where the children enthusiastically threw their mortar boards into the air, creating a picture-perfect ending to a special day.
Cheryl Lambert, Operations Manager at The Montessori People Nursery, said:
“Graduating from nursery is an important milestone and a wonderful way to celebrate everything the children have achieved during their early years with us.
“It is one of the biggest events in our calendar and something the children, families and staff look forward to every year. The ceremony helps children recognise how much they have grown in confidence and independence, while also preparing them for the exciting journey ahead.
“Starting primary school is a significant moment for both children and parents. Our graduation celebration provides an opportunity to mark that transition positively, helping the children feel proud of their accomplishments and excited about what comes next.”
The annual graduation ceremony is designed to celebrate the children’s achievements while providing a memorable opportunity for families to reflect on their nursery experience and say farewell before the move to primary school.
Cheryl added:
“Many of our children have been with us since they were babies, so graduation can be an emotional occasion for families and staff alike. It is a chance to celebrate the relationships that have been built over the years and to recognise the progress each child has made.
“We are incredibly proud of all 32 graduates and wish them every success as they begin this exciting new chapter at school.”
